The app asks our servers for the blank forms and field help it needs, and sends nothing back. There's nothing on our servers to breach, because we never receive any of it.

We never receive any patient information, so there is no BAA to sign with us. HIPAA still applies to you and to how you handle the forms you print and sign.

No. You are the certifying provider and every value on the form is one you confirmed. Where PatientPapers reads a note you paste, it proposes values and shows each with the words it came from; nothing is put on the form until you confirm it. The certification wording itself is built by fixed rules from your confirmed answers, and the software asserts nothing clinical of its own.

The DOL FMLA certifications WH-380-E (employee's own serious health condition) and WH-380-F (family member's) are the core, with the military caregiver certifications WH-385 (current servicemember) and WH-385-V (covered veteran) beside them. Alongside them it completes the carrier and TPA versions of the same certification, state disabled-parking placard certifications, the federal workers' comp CA-17 and CA-20, attending-physician statements for disability claims, and a set of letters it composes on your letterhead, with your practice name, logo and office address at the top. Those categories are the whole of it, and the full list of forms names every one.

An employer may require its own form instead of the DOL one — that's permitted under 29 C.F.R. § 825.306(b). PatientPapers completes the carrier and TPA certifications employers most often send in place of the DOL form, as well as the DOL originals. What it cannot do is complete a form that is not in its catalog: if the one your patient was handed isn't there, it isn't supported.

It puts your confirmed values on the official DOL form, and we check the official source monthly so the blank you are using is the current one. We can't promise any recipient will accept any form; nobody can.

Setup is once per computer: a passcode, a recovery code, your details and your signature, and it powers every form after. There is nothing to install and nothing for your IT department to set up. It runs in your browser.

The app is built so that your wifi can drop mid-certification and nothing happens: once you have opened a form, answering it, signing it and printing it keep working with or without a connection. There are three limitations to be aware of. First, a form you have never opened needs one connection before it can be used. Second, your license needs one online click per billing period. Third, if the computer clears its browsing data, many hospital machines do that at every logout, the app needs one connection to get going again.

Only on one that keeps its browsing data. Many hospital computers erase it at every logout, and that erases your setup and saved answers on that computer too, so you would enter your details again. Forms you have already signed and printed are not affected. To keep your saved answers, export them from time to time.

Staff can work in the app on the provider's computer, where it runs as that provider: there is one user per computer and no separate staff login. Only the certifying provider signs, and each provider who signs needs their own license. How staff use the provider's computer is the practice's to arrange and supervise.

Add a license for each state, during setup or any time later under Profile. When a form belongs to a particular state, like a Kansas parking placard, PatientPapers fills in your license number for that state. On a form that isn't tied to one state, it fills in your license only if you have just one, and otherwise leaves that box for you.

Because you re-type your details every time and restart for renewals. PatientPapers stores them once, reuses them on that device, and clones renewals in a tap — on the current official form, with every value confirmed by you before it lands.

That depends on how many you sign, but FMLA is not all of it. The catalog also covers disabled-parking placard certifications, federal workers' comp, disability-claim statements and many of the letters patients ask for. In my own use, PatientPapers is faster than filling forms out by hand. If you value your time at a couple of hundred dollars an hour, saving 15 minutes on a form pays for the monthly plan with one form a month, and the annual plan with about five forms a year. Your signed forms have already gone into the patient's chart — that is the record, and cancelling does not touch it. The app also keeps a reusable copy of what you answered, which is what makes next year's renewal a one-tap clone, and you can export that copy at any time. It sits in your browser's own storage, so clearing the browser or losing the machine takes it; the export is how you keep it. We never held a copy of any of it, so there is nothing on our side to lock you out of.
